Several scientific and medical explanations suggest that the human hair grow in cycle. Normally, when strands of hair pop up to grow, the growth will take for about two to six years. Each of the strands will grow in a length of approximately one centimeter for each month during the said phase. Of this growth, 90 percent of the hair will grow at any one time, and the remaining 10 percent will tend to remain in its resting phase. It is this resting hair basically which falls out of the scalp after a certain period of up to two to three months. As this resting hair falls, new strand will be born in its place.
Although normal, hair loss sometimes tends to go in extremes. This is where the concept of excessive hair loss comes in. And, although majority of the advertisements show men experiencing thinning of hair, they don't mean to say that only men are affected by excessive hair loss. Fact is, women may fall victims to it.
Hair loss in women is something that is not commonly heard. But, although there's not much written and said about it, several studies have shown that the number of women affected by this excessive hair fall is far more huge than first thought. About 25 million of American women are victims of hair loss, according to some reports.
The women hair loss is often viewed as a distressing condition. Many victims of its have said that they feel inferior and even unwanted. This reaction, of course, can be linked emotionally and psychologically, but it's sad to know that just because of the said condition, many found themselves locked on their closets.
Although distressing, it is important to note that female hair loss is not a matter of escape. This is also true for men and even children. All animals, including human beings are subject to it and there's no way for us to escape it. It is in fact shown by several studies that in female hair loss, about 100 to 125 strands of hair fall on a just a single day. There are some, however, who experience hair fall more than that number. This happens even to the most favorite dogs and cats of yours. The dog hair loss and cat hair loss though have their own history and causes, something that is unique from women and men.
Causes of Hair Loss
In Men and Women:
The cause of female hair loss may come in numbers, which is true even for men. One of the most explained causes of hair loss for both men and women have something to do with heredity. According to several claims, the condition runs in the whole family, the reason that many viewed it as something that can't be cured. The first sign of hair fall occurs in the stage of puberty and may speed up when the woman reaches the menopausal stage of her life. This hereditary cause of female and male hair loss is known scientifically as androgenetic alopecia.
Another noted cause of female hair loss is pregnancy. This actually have something to do with hormonal changes in the body as during the onset of pregnancy, the female body tends to emit large amount of estrogen. This estrogen production triggers the follicles of hair to reach its growth phase. The problem then occur once the nine months of conceiving is over, the time when the hormonal balance in the body is restored which leads the follicles to allow new strands of hair to grow in its place. This is where the idea of hair loss after pregnancy comes in.
